How Lumi Launched IllumiFun as a Single Kitted SKU

Summary
Lumi makes projectors and smart devices. We receive their inbound product, fulfill the projector line, handle all B2B orders including EDI and Barnes and Noble, ship their trade show freight, and built the kit program that let IllumiFun launch as a single scannable SKU.
The situation
Lumi's product reaches customers four different ways: retail, B2B wholesale, Amazon and direct. The same inventory has to serve all of them, and each has its own requirements.
Retail means EDI, routing guide compliance and delivery windows. Barnes and Noble takes product both in store and online, which are different fulfillment paths. Trade shows need freight on an event calendar. And a pilot launch like IllumiFun needs a physical kit built before it can be sold at all.
Inbound product arrives from their distributor, which means the operation starts at receiving rather than at the order.
What we did
Import receiving. Inbound product received from Lumi's distributor, counted and brought into inventory.
Fulfillment for the projector line. We are the fulfillment partner for the projector product line.
B2B and retail. All B2B orders including EDI, plus Barnes and Noble in store and online.
Trade show freight. Show freight shipped and supported on the event calendar.
Kitting for the IllumiFun pilot launch. We built the kit program: projector, stand and IllumiFun box packed as one kit, with alias SKUs set up for the black and white versions, and a kit-level UPC applied to each outer box.
Retail and Amazon. Supporting the licensed bundle rollout with Power Play Retail, including Amazon prep.
Why the IllumiFun kit matters
A bundle isn't a bundle until it has its own barcode.
Three components sitting in a box is a picking instruction. A retailer scanning it needs one UPC that resolves to one sellable unit, and a warehouse picking it needs one SKU rather than three. Without that, every order is an assembly job and every retailer integration is a negotiation.
Building the kit program meant defining the pack, setting up alias SKUs so the black and white versions each resolve correctly, and applying a kit-level UPC to the outer box. After that the kit picks, ships and scans as a single item.
That's the difference between a bundle you can sell and a bundle you can only describe.
Results
The projector line fulfilled from one operation across retail, B2B, Amazon and direct.
IllumiFun launched as a single kitted SKU with its own UPC, in both black and white versions.
Barnes and Noble supported in store and online from the same inventory.
Trade show freight handled on the event calendar alongside regular fulfillment.
The licensed bundle rollout supported with Power Play Retail, including Amazon prep.
Questions this raises
Can you build a multi-component product into one sellable SKU? Yes. For IllumiFun we packed the projector, stand and product box as one kit, set up alias SKUs for each color version, and applied a kit-level UPC to the outer box so it scans as a single unit.
Do you handle EDI for retail accounts? Yes. All of Lumi's B2B orders run through us including EDI.
Can you support both in-store and online retail for the same account? Yes. Barnes and Noble is supported both ways from the same inventory pool.
Do you handle trade show freight alongside regular fulfillment? Yes. Show freight is shipped and supported on the event calendar without a separate operation.
Can you do Amazon prep for a licensed bundle? Yes. We support the licensed bundle rollout with Power Play Retail, including Amazon prep.

Why Warehouse Location Is a Margin Decision for Beverage Brands
Warehouse location plays a critical and frequently underestimated role in beverage logistics. Unlike lightweight consumer goods, beverages are heavy, typically palletized, and shipped in high volume, which means distance has an outsized effect on freight cost, delivery speed, product integrity, and retailer compliance.
